WHY ARE YOU AFRAID? DON’T YOU KNOW THAT I AM WITH YOU?
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage, be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest” (Joshua 1:9).
Sometimes I call him Grandpa. Other times I call him Dad. Usually though, I call him Bob. Bob married my mom 6½ years after my dad passed away. Bob has been a huge asset and a tremendous blessing to our family ever since. The grandkids love Grandpa Bob. That’s why I sometimes call him Grandpa.
Bob is a farmer and owns a deer habitat. Lance has counted over 200 deer at one time on this piece of land. Bob has been a hard worker all of his life. He is a very practical “farmer type of guy,” who had a miraculous experience of God’s protection while working on his farm.
After listening to his story, I thought, “Wow! This sounds like being “translated” – as in Acts 8:39 where “the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip” after he baptized the Ethiopian eunuch. I have read how John G. Lake described his personal experiences of being in one place and being miraculously translated to another place where God needed him to be. I think this is what happened to Bob.
This is Bob’s story. He was on his payloader, working to remove an abandoned railroad bed from his pasture. This railroad bed was at least ten feet high. Removing the dirt that had elevated the used-to-be railroad tracks would improve his pasture land.
He was going up the incline of this railroad bed with his payloader when he noticed the gauge showed the transmission was getting hot. He put the payloader into park and decided to step out while things cooled down. Bob was climbing out of the cab when the payloader started to go backwards. Bob explained to me that the shift that was supposed to hold the payloader in the park position was worn out and had slipped.
He jumped back in the cab to shift it back into park as the payloader started to go backwards even faster and rolled on its side. The cab was only built to shelter a person from the weather and was easily crushable. Being caught in the payloader rolling down the hill was a death trap. Bob could hear the glass breaking from the windows. The cab was being crushed. He tried to get out.
Bob has no memory of getting out of that payloader. The next thing he knew he was standing on the top of the railroad bed and looking down at the payloader, which had now burst into flames. He heard an audible voice from behind him ask, “Why are you afraid? Don’t you know that I am with you?”
Having a disease can feel like being trapped in an easily crushable cab while your life is rolling down the hill and about ready to burst into flames. I want to encourage every precious reader, no matter what your situation in life is, Joshua 1:9 has a Word from the Lord for you: FEAR NOT. GOD IS WITH YOU. Just as God helped Joshua in battle and just as he helped Bob, He is there to help YOU.
He is with you not for the purpose of watching you being destroyed. He is there to help you and deliver you. Joel 2:32 says, “… Whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered….” Believe this promise. Do not be like the people mentioned in Hebrews 4:2, where the Word of God did not profit them because they did not mix faith with the Word.
Friend, God asks YOU the same questions today: “Why are you afraid? Don’t you know that I am with you?” He is there to help you and deliver you, not to watch you be destroyed.
Abba Father: I choose not to fear. I choose to believe. I call on Your name. Thank You that You shall deliver me.
